New Mugs from Fireside Pottery

Nancy Button of Fireside Pottery:
Mugs! I'm indulging myself in a slow flow with these mugs. Each one is different, and I've made 40. It feels like such a grand indulgence to not worry about how much time I spend on each piece. Potter Nick Joerling says that all design work equates to a short term loss of income, but a long term gain, as it keeps us excited and energized by what we do. I agree!
Fireside Pottery is loacted in Warren, on the coastal leg of the Tour.

Group Studios

Though most of the stops on the Maine Pottery Tour are individual or partner potters, three are group studios. These are fun because visitors get to see many different potters working many different ways, in one stop!
Portland Pottery, at 118 Washington Avenue, is a teaching studio where students of all ages and skill levels work. With two big gas kilns three electric, and a raku kiln Portland Pottery fires the work of about 70 students at any given time.

Hope Clay is a newer studio located at 725 Camden Rd in Hope, Maine offers wheel, handbuilding, and even slip-casting classes for kids and adults, and memberships for people who just need space to work.

Bayside Clay at Running with Scissors is a different kind of group studio. Answering a need for working space for potters, Bayside Clay hosts private studio spaces for 20 potters and ceramic artists. Artists share kilns and glazing spaces, while working independently.
